Resources To Support Your Child During Virtual Learning

Virtual Learning Parent's Resource

At DCPS, we believe that families are our strongest partners. This partnership is more important than ever as we take the lessons from learning at home together this past spring toward how we will begin the 2020-2021 school year virtually.

To help parents and caregivers have a successful start to the school year, download our new Family Guide to Learning at Home.

This free resource, available in English and Spanish, walks you through what learning at home looks like at DCPS this fall.

In addition to targeted reading instruction, the program also includes virtual home visits, family workshops, and incentives for students and families. Eligible families will be contacted by DCPS with instructions to register.

DCPS Summer Extended Learning and Enrichment

DCPS has partnered with an organization to help bring our curriculum to life in a virtual setting. We are excited to dive into their project-based learning approach in Literacy and Humanities or STEM. Through interactive videos, engaging texts, and culminating projects, these partners bring the hands-on experience of our traditional summer enrichment program to life. While students will participate in a series of learning modules, they will also have one-on-one learning session, whole-group sharing, and additional family resources available. Some of the project highlights include:

  • Learn about angles and lines, polygons, and area and perimeter by designing a wildlife sanctuary
  • Conduct research for an op-ed and then create an investigative journalism report for a news show
  • Learn about plant and animal inheritance and life cycles by devising a plan to save the bee population
  • Create virtual museum exhibits to showcase the history of their state.

Student Grade Levels: Current Kindergarten through 5th grade

Dates: Monday, June 22 – Friday, July 24, 2020 (except July 3)

Times: Varies, but generally 9 am to 1 pm
