Juneteenth Celebration

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 19 at the Turkey Thicket Recreation Center (1100 Michigan Ave, Washington, DC, 20017). We will engage in mindfulness activities, yoga, arts and crafts, and more from 10am – 12pm. The event is open to all families and students.

Juneteenth is the oldest national celebration commemorating the end of slavery and June is national Pride Month, which promotes the affirmation and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. This event seeks to highlight the importance of intersectionality, centering the unique experiences of our LGBTQ+ Black youth and to affirm them.

Some reminders on what to wear and bring:

  • Wear comfortable clothing suitable for yoga or other physical activities
  • If you are not vaccinated, please bring a mask
  • A yoga mat (if you have one), though we will provide temporary mats to guests
